How to Create a Wedding Binder

wedding binder

///DISCLAIMER/// These files were originally created over three years ago with no plans of distribution. Since that time, the original design files have been lost completely. There will not be new updates or missing pages issued to this design. That being said, I hope that what is available can be of use to you!

My younger and much taller sister has recently gotten engaged. I remember being engaged how much people throw out their own opinions… You should get married HERE! and DON’T make the bridesmaids wear THIS! or NO outdoor weddings in Oklahoma! It’s hard to even think. For that reason, I took a step back initially so I didn’t come across as bossy or pushy, since this is all about her and what she wants. (We do have a VERY similar style/taste level for what it’s worth.)

It’s been about a month now since she got engaged and wasn’t getting much closer to any plans really forming other than looking at a couple of venues. There is no major rush to get things started, but I realized she was needing some guidance and, okay, maybe a little pushing. Plus I wanted to be a good sister so that she would owe me big someday. I decided I would make her a wedding binder, but the catch is… I didn’t want to pay for one.

Here’s all I had to buy:
$5 binder at Target,
$3 metallic pens-because duh
$3 for some extra brown kraft paper from Hobby
$2 Arrow sticky notes-How could I say no?!?

Total, I spent less than $15 because I already had a TON on hand for my invitation business. I laminated my own pages and tabs to be dividers, scrounged up some old pocket folders that I didn’t use and designed a crap load of lists, calendars, notes, etc..

There are free printables below the breakdown!

I looked up a bunch of things online, and didn’t really love any but combined different elements of each. For her binder I came up with thirteen dividers. Here’s the breakdown of each and what I included under each in case you can’t sleep at night and NEED to know:

1. THE BASICS
• A simple monthly checklist that doesn’t delve into too much detail for the sake of not overwhelming the poor girl.
• Vendor Contact List – Self explanatory, I hope.
• Wedding Party Contact List
• Wedding Day Time – To be filled in closer to the date
• Random Thoughts Page – Just a page with a bunch of lines to include any notes. I included one in every section and a handful in the very back.
2. BUDGET
• A budget chart that gives details like “How much to allot to certain parts” and also fill in the blanks for budget, estimate and amount spent.
3. INSPIRATION
• A pocket folder to keep track of printouts
• Inspiration Note Page
4. ATTIRE
• Dress Notes – for keeping track of stores gone to or need to go to.
• Bridal Party Attire Notes
5. VENUE
• Potential Venue Page – Since she is still in the PRE planning stage and narrowing down venues
• Order of Ceremony
• List of Processionals
• Reception Timeline
6. FLOWERS
• Potential Florists
• Flower Ideas
7. PHOTOGRAPHY
• Potential Photographers
• Must Have Photo List
8. ENTERTAINMENT
• Potential Entertainment
• Reception Ideas
• Reception Music
• Favor Ideas
9. DECOR
10. HONEYMOON
• Honeymoon Ideas – to help narrow what kind of a honeymoon she is looking for.
11. CALENDAR
• Includes June 2013 – July 2014
12. GUESTS
• Invite List – Not meant to be a master list just a place to write down names when you remember them.
13. THANK YOU’s
Just a place to keep track of who got you what and if you’ve sent a thank you note already.

If you’d like to make your own for you or as a gift, here are the files that I created for this. Download and print away!
Wedding Binder DIVIDERS – These are the main dividers that I printed on kraft paper and then laminated. 13 pages total.
Wedding Binder TABS – I printed the tabs on 2″ round labels, attached to a kraft paper circle and laminated again. Adhered to divider pages with glue dots.
Wedding Binder BUDGET – A fast and loose breakdown to each budget section.
Wedding Binder LISTS – 19 pages total to this document includes lists and note pages for sections 1-10. I printed a bunch of the “Random Notes” page (the very last one in this file and added 3-5 to each section.
Wedding Binder THANK YOUS – Keep a running list of people to thank for gifts or services.
Wedding Binder GUESTS – Keep a running list of people to invite.

I know this seems like a massive list but I wanted it to be something she could personalize as well. Maybe take out a few sections if she wanted it differently, but I’m hoping this helps her get started and stay on top of it all. When I was planning my own wedding, it was basically me and my mom doing all of it. Since I’ve been through it before, I owe it to her to lend a hand. Here’s to hoping she likes it and uses it! I’m giving it to her tonight, finger crossed. Now, enjoy the pictures!
